  • At the 2007 meeting of the Association for Communication Excellence in Agricultural and Natural Resources presented Dr. Emily Rhoades and master’s student Kelsey Hall with the First Place Outstanding Faculty Research Paper. Dr. Larry Whiting was awarded the association’s Award of Excellence in Academic Programs. Marissa Mullett, alumni from the agricultural communication’s masters program, won the second place thesis award at the conference.
  • The new Ohio Agricultural Communicators Association (OACA) mentoring for agricultural communication majors program was established to strengthen our connection with communication professionals in the agricultural industry.
  • Dr. Emily Rhoades joined the agricultural communication program in 2006 as assistant professor. She is a graduate of the University of Florida.
  • The Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow attended the 2007 National ACT Regional Leadership Workshop in Indianapolis, In.. Fourteen students and Dr. Rhoades toured the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Achieva Communications, as well as listened to speakers on career development and leadership.
  • Annie Ruth Specht, an honors student and an agricultural communication major, received the Gamma Sigma Delta Sophomore Award. She is also the recipient of the Roy Kottman Scholarship Award, and was named Ohio Junior Holstein Association Distinguished Junior Member, Senior Division.
  • In November 2005, Dr. Larry Whiting received the Price Advising Award from the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences for "outstanding performance and lasting contribution." In recognition of the honor a $500 stipend was awarded the department by the college.
  • Larry Whiting, Professor of Agricultural Communication, received the Professional Award from the Association for Communication Excellence at its annual meeting in San Antonio in June. This is the highest honor given to a member of this international organization and recognizes a long distinguished career in land grant agricultural communication responsibilities, both in teaching and administrative assignments.
  • Larry Whiting, Professor of Agricultural Communication, was presented the 2004 Outstanding Research Article of the year by the Journal of Applied Communication at the annual meeting of the Association for Communication Excellence in June in San Antonio. Co-authors were Mark Tucker, Human and Community Resource Development, and Sherrie, University of Georgia.
